I started working when I was 16… as soon as I was able to get my work permit. My first job was at the Gap, which was so much fun. However, there was one problem. Whatever money I made went right back to the store. I think I single-handedly boosted their stock! LOL I digress, as usual. I used to love looking at the new seasonal lines and pick out my outfits before they even shipped to the store. As salespeople, we were encouraged to wear the new looks and I did! It was fun picking out my work outfits then, and I still enjoy picking out my workwear now. To be perfectly honest, I really do love getting dressed up for work. Wearing heels, boots, pants, dresses, button-downs and anything workwear-related really makes me happy. I stand a lot during the day, but there is something about a pair of heels that makes me throw them on a good majority of the week. I’ll never forget my first year teaching when one of my co-workers came up to me and said, “Oh honey, no need to get all spiffy… you’re not in the city anymore (as in NYC).” I thought to myself, just because I don’t work in the city anymore does not mean my style has to go bye-bye – Oh Hell no!
So as we approach fall, I get very excited for sweater weather. There are so many cute options out there and my favorite color during this time reminds me of pumpkins…or maybe more like a spiced-pumpkin latte. {wink} I particularly like pairing this super cute three-quarter sleeve boat neck sweater with navy pants, both from one of my favorite stores, J.Crew. The colors complement each other and it truly feels like a fall outfit. Add nude heels, a fun Michael Kors bag, some gold accessories and you’re off!
Although I really love how this color looks when paired with navy, you can really pair it with anything! Below, I threw on a beige suede skirt to keep with the fall theme. Posted a similar skirt as the one I have on is no longer available :/
I am forever grateful for my exerperience working in the city, as it not only enhanced my love for fashion, it reinforced the timeless classic pieces. Safe to say working in NYC still has a great influence on my wardrobe today. When getting ready I sometimes ask myself, “What would city Silvia wear?” – lol
Thanks for reading, please stop by again soon. XOXO
