Simply Nautical

One of the best things about living on Long Island is having easy access to water.  Beautiful waterfront towns and beaches are never far away.  One of our favorite places on the north shore is Port Jefferson.  It’s a gorgeous walking town with great bars, restaurants, shops, and of course, breathtaking views.  One can’t help but feel a little nautical when strolling down the boardwalk or having brunch at Danford’s, an elegant boutique hotel.  This historic, harbor side village was the perfect backdrop for a little nautical photo shoot.

Nautical fashion has been around since the 1800s and doesn’t seem like it is going to fade out anytime soon.  As the warmer weather comes around, beautiful navy, white, and now more than ever, chambray find their way into all the clothing stores.  Navy and white stripes always evokes sounds of the ocean waves and the smell of salt in the air.  I’m going to be honest.  I only own about two, maybe three “nautical” outfits, but I’m in love with this one.  These striped shorts are on sale right now for $12.99!  This linen pom-pom sweater is also on sale and great for summer layering. It’s very lightweight and I love that the neckline is wide enough to pull one side off the shoulder.  This summer, I have been obsessed with this white pump.  It’s the perfect 80s throwback.  (Here’s a similar pump for less than half the price!)  I recently purchased these sunglasses and I’m positive you’ll see more of them in future posts.  These earrings and bracelet are both from J.Crew and are frequently on sale online.   And finally, the bag.  If you love Chanel Boy Bag and like me, cannot come close to affording it, then this bag is a great option.

Gingham has been a popular trend for the past few years now.  From the ties at the shoulder, to the ruffles along the top, and embroidered details at the bottom, this gingham top is super feminine.  It’s light and comfortable too.  The best part is that it’s on sale!  These navy linen shorts have a great elastic tie waist and are easy to dress up or dress down, plus, they’re on sale too.  These espadrille wedges are perfect for the summer.  The heel is only 3 1/2″ and the soft leather is very comfortable.  As you can see, we both love this bracelet.  It’s just so simple and chic.  This style earring is very popular this summer and a white pair goes a long way.  You can find this earring in Target stores for $9.99.  For a similar pair, try these.  Rebecca Minkoff has been killing it this summer with her stylish and affordable bags.  This clutch is a staple in our wardrobe.  The red (fire engine red to be exact) gives this outfit a little pop.  Red is predicted to be a popular color this fall, so this clutch will definitely carry over into the next season.  Lastly, you can’t go wrong with the classic wayfarer sunglasses, another item that will definitely carry over into the fall.
