This feminine and chic detail is not necessarily a new trend when you consider its origins. Dating back to the 16th century, ruffles were worn by both men and women. Regularly worn by the aristocrats all over Europe during this time period, the ruffle was more like a status symbol rather than a fashion statement. Worn by high profile figures such as Marie Antoinette, the ruffle design is quite simple and probably why it has continued to be popular. Well, times have sure changed since the 16th century! Do you remember the Seinfeld episode with the “puffy” shirt? So funny, but it came to mind as we were putting outfits together for this shoot! It was really that point in the 90s that this Seinfeld episode became infamous and ruffles were no doubt here to stay for a very long time.
Our obsession with Abercrombie has not yet stopped. This fabulous ruffle sweater is so comfortable and comes in a variety of colors. It is the perfect sweater to wear to work, around town or even a night out! We love the detail on this one particularly because the drapey ruffle falls just right around the arms. The blouse below is definitely Seinfeld-esque! Sanctuary is one of our favorite brands. They always make great tops…remember that black off the shoulder top we posted during the summer? Yep, that was Sanctuary too. This top comes in a variety of colors and prints, depending on where you shop it! We have it with the sleeves down in these pics (We wanted to give the full Seinfeld effect lol), but we love it worn with the sleeves pushed up as well. We will show that to you on Instastories today [wink].
We love the contrast of black and white, so we styled it with high-waisted black ankle jeans (which are currently on sale!) and with these awesome black faux-leather shorts (another option available below). You could easily wear this with a pair of jeans too, like these. Minimal accessorizing is needed because this top really speaks for itself!
