Becoming a mom was the best thing that has ever happened to me. Everything that everyone says about motherhood is true. It’s the best, yet the hardest thing you’ll ever do. It shows you the true meaning of unconditional love. You would literally die for your child. I am very fortunate to have experienced all of this. My children are the greatest gift I have ever gotten and will ever get from this universe. As I took on this new amazing role that I had always dreamed of for as long as I can remember, I too often struggled to take care of someone else…myself.
When you become a mom, you learn to become less selfish and more selfless. Your kids always come first. Their health and happiness becomes your main priority 24/7. Of course, this is the way it should be! When you become a parent, it’s your responsibility to love, nurture, and support your child…always. Often, when doing something for yourself, like go for a run, buy a new pair of shoes, or go out for an hour to get your nails done, you feel serious mommy guilt. For me, that mommy guilt never subsides. But what I have found over time is that I am a better mother to my children when my family is happy…and our family includes ME! It wasn’t healthy for me not to do anything for myself. Just as I felt that my world was complete, there was something else happening; I felt somewhat lost inside. I thought to myself, if I am feeling this way inside, then how could I be the best possible mom to my children? Mommies are always on a mission to create a better future for their children, but we have another mission. It’s important to also take care of us! We have to remember that it’s okay to do something for yourself once in a while (and ignore the judgment of others!). It is completely normal and healthy. I’ve learned to take time to do little things here and there for me, but it’s a continuous struggle that I constantly have to work on.
Creating this blog with Silvia helped me take time out for myself and work on something creative. Additionally, focusing on something so simple as my style, actually made me feel good. By putting in conscious effort into what I wore, I began to feel more like myself. Now, it’s not like I spend hours and hours picking out what I am going to wear (okay, sometimes that happens…), but I make the conscious decision to do something for myself every morning by either putting on some makeup or wearing something stylish. This is done in a matter of minutes, so there’s no mommy guilt involved! My daughter Bella actually likes to stand on her stool and watch me put makeup on. I truly believe that if you look good, you feel good. You don’t have to go overboard in order to look good. A nice simple top or a cool pair of jeans does the trick. I always prefer to be comfortable when running around with my little rascals! I have two very active kids, so comfort is key!
Today’s post features two of my favorite “mom” tops. Obviously, they weren’t designed just for moms, but they’re super comfy and stylish! Perfect for a mom on the go.
My obsession for Sanctuary clothing has no bounds. I absolutely love this clothing line! This sweatshirt is just awesome. It’s all cotton and all cozy, yet has trendy raw edges and cool cold shoulder cutouts. These jeans are really soft and comfortable as well. They are currently sold out, but this pair by the same brand is just as cool. They both have that “broken in” feel. These sneakers have been a go-to of mine since last year. They’re easy to get on quickly, comfortable (of course!), and the perforated design makes them breathable! Because they’re just so good, they’ve stuck around and are still in stock at Nordstrom!
The off the shoulder sweatshirt below is one of my absolute favorites! It’s 100% cotton and a perfect relaxed fit. I’ve worn it with everything, from jeans, to leggings, to joggers… It can be worn off the shoulder (as seen here) or as a wide neck. I’m wearing high-waisted skinnies from TopShop. After having Bella last year, I realized why moms LOVE high-waisted everything! They work wonders! These sneakers aren’t available anymore, but these are cute alternatives.
Side note: Originally, Brody and I were just playing outside, but then Bella woke up from her morning nap and joined in on the festivities (whilst still in her pajamas lol).
Thanks for taking the time to check out our post! XO
