Living for Lavender this Spring

As much as I enjoy winter fashion and all things cozy, I am completely ready for spring! Retailers start clearing out their winter inventory throughout the month of January in order to make room for spring collections the following month. There are some amazing trends hitting the spring scene from mixed prints to the thrill of frills and bold, saturated colors to pretty pastels. No matter how you define your style, there is seriously a trend for everyone!

Now, if you have been following us for a while, you know that I LOVE Pantone’s fashion color trend report. Pantone analyzes the runways during fashion week and identifies the trending colors for the upcoming season. (Click here to see the full report.) On the list are three shades of purple: pink lavender, ultra violet, and spring crocus.  These beautiful colors have already been infiltrating stores and I must say, I love it!

Last Friday at school, we had to wear purple in support of P.S. I Love You Day.  As I searched my closet, I could not find anything except an old purple scarf.  The color purple has strong sentimental value to my family.  It was my Lola’s (Lola = grandmother in Tagalog) favorite color.  The color always reminds us of her.  One of my fashion goals this season is to break out of my comfort zone and embrace my feminine side.  What better way to do this by incorporating the purple trend into my wardrobe?  I think my Lola would have loved this.

This beautifully feminine top is basically a “go big or go home” item for me.  By this, I mean that if I am going to embrace my femininity, it goes above and beyond!  I was first drawn to the soft lavender color.  Interestingly enough, when you look very closely at this top, it actually isn’t lavender at all! It is made of thin red, blue and pink stripes with a white backdrop and white trim. The proximity of the colors gives of the perception of lavender. The psychology of it all makes me love this top even more!

Additionally, this top has a LOT going on.  It puts a fun and innovative twist on a classic style…the classic button down deconstructed! I just love is the asymmetric button closure!  The ruffle trim adds a bit of romance to the look and the cut-out/off the shoulder design adds some sex appeal.  Safe to say, this top is far from boring!  Even with all of the intricate design details, this top is under $100.

In order to complete the look, I decided to pair this “lavender” top with vintage style denim.  This top is not too long, but not too short, so I preferred a tucked look.  These high-waisted jeans allowed for the perfect tuck.  If you prefer to wear mid-rise or low-rise, you can just tuck the center of the top, which is what my friends like the call “the blogger tuck.”  A classic white pump and bag pull the look together.

I’ve included some other pretty lavender tops for this spring below.  Stop back soon to see what trend we’ll be showcasing next!
